The detail in this sculpture of fishermen with their nets and boat is a tribute to our skilled craftsmen in Bethlehem. This carving is symbolic of Jesus finding his first disciples.
He calls upon two men at the lake and performs a miraculous catch of fish after they had fished all night in vain. The scene was Jesus' call for all Christians to be fishers of men and teach His word. "And He saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." Matthew 4:19 KJV
